Join us for a fun-filled Ol’ Fashioned Fourth of July Alternative Family Picnic at the Yerba Buena Gardens. Bring a picnic and celebrate Independence Day with the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, the Dixieland Dykes +3, Mr. Pat-A-Cake the gay clown, some of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and other Bay Area entertainers. This day of family fun and activities for all ages is free to all. Cosponsored by the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Yerba Buena Arts and Events, the Jon Sims Center for the Arts and the Alternative Family Insitute.

The San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band is entering its third decade as the world’s first openly lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender musical organization. Founded in 1978 by Jon Reed Sims as the “San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Marching Band and Twirling Corps,” the Band has appeared all over the United States. A true community band in all senses, the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band has members from all over the Greater Bay Area. The band has members from all walks of life, genders, religions, colors, and sexual orientations.
