From hip-hop to punk rock, from Bessie Smith to Patti Smith, everyone knows we got the beat! Check out these amazing shorts about women creating music.

SISTERZ OF THE UNDERGROUND: EXTRA CREDIT follows members of the Bay Area hip hop collective as they teach the students of Girls 2000, a Hunter’s Point resource center. Created by youth from Safe Space for Le Tigre’s live performances, KEEP ON LIVING looks at the struggles of queer youth of color to stay strong and vital. Smith, Holiday, and Brown come alive in BESSIE, BILLIE & RUTH, a one-woman, one-take homage by jazz diva Sweet Baby Jai.

The documentary ANGEL FOOD features Bonfire Madigan’s 2002 solo France tour. Le Tigre fans will enjoy Elizabeth Subrin’s music video for WELL, WELL, WELL. There’s an opening for a girl band in town and everyone’s out to get the job in the animated PAXI & FIXI. MICHIGAN FEVER! is a fast-paced, provocative visual collage of the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival. The feminist hardcore band Dominatrix, an influential musical and political force in Brazil and across Latin America, launches their first US tour with Portland punk duo, The Haggard, in BENDING THE EQUATOR.
