detour dance presents a work-in-progress of FUGUE, a theatrical journey to a lost city. Based on forgotten stories from Queers, people of color and long-time residents of San Francisco, the performance is a foray into nostalgia and utopian yearnings. Through contemporary dance, song and text, detour dance invokes past and future memories of San Francisco that capture our current cultural amnesia. FUGUE is set to premiere December 1-10, 2017 in San Francisco’s Mission District.
Founded in 2009 by Directors Kat Cole and Eric Garcia, detour dance is a San Francisco-based performance company. detour dance creates/curates nuanced, uncompromising and relevant performance and film that promote, support and empower artists, queers and people of color. Our ensemble devises new works that places equal emphasis on multidisciplinary collaborations and social justice. detour dance produces an annual fall performance season, the annual San Francisco Tiny Dance Film Festival and detour dance’s monthly training workshop series.

This project is a chance for me to say yes to all the things I was told no to as a child. I am seeking liberation through a queer reimagining of my childhood told through dance, film, music, and word.
