An Ol’ Fashioned 4th of July Alternative Family Picnic
Thursday July 4th, 11am-3pm
Yerba Buena Gardens, 3rd & Mission Streets
Join us for a fun-filled Ol’ Fashioned Fourth of July Alternative Family Picnic at the Yerba Buena Gardens. Bring a picnic and celebrate Independence Day with the SF Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, the Dixieland Dykes + 3 and a festive line-up of Bay Area entertainers. As part of the 2002 Yerba Buena Garden’s Festival this event is cosponsored by Yerba Buena Arts and Events, the Jon Sims Center for the Arts and the Alternative Family Institute. The SF Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band is in it’s third decade as the world’s first openly LGBT musical organization. Founded in 1978 by Jon Reed Sims as the “San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Marching Band and Twirling Corps,” the Band has appeared all over the US. The band has members from all walks of life, genders, religions, colors and sexual orientations. The Band is under the artistic direction of Jadine Louie, nominated for Marshall of the 2002 Pride Parade.
