No Sin, My Love: A Panel on The New Inquisition and Queer Arts
Juana Opera Project
June 17 at 2:00pm
LGBT Community Center / Rainbow Room
Tickets: $5 – $10, sliding scale
Join the creators of the opera Juana in this lively panel on the Catholic Church’s “New Inquisition” against gay priests and how it affects queer artists and religious leaders. The discussion starts with a short video of workshop productions from Juana, the opera in development based on the life and poetry of 17th Century lesbian nun Juana Ines de la Cruz, who was persecuted as part of the Catholic Church’s Spanish Inquisition.
Valentin Aguirre, Juana Producer, will facilitate the discussion, with speakers including Carla Lucero, Juana Composer, and Maria Caruana, Freedom-in-Christ Church Pastor, along with other invited artists and religious leaders. Then stay after the panel to get an update on the opera Juana.
